SACRAMENTO — Sierra High moved to 7-0-1 on the season by winning the Folsom Challenge Cup in Sacramento Saturday.

The Timberwolves took down Folsom in the title match, 1-0, after blanking Bella Vista 4-0 earlier in the day.

In the 29th minute of the championship, Delaine Quaresma took a shot well within the box and collected the rebound before finding Nicole Vanni open for a quick give-and-go score.

The Timberwolves also just missed on a couple of more scores with two shots off the post in the early going.

“Out of all of our games, (Folsom) was the toughest (opponent) we’ve played,” Sierra head coach Manuel Pires said. “They are very smart; it was definitely a great challenge.”

Pires felt the T’Wolves played extremely well.

“They stepped it up,” he said. “They deserved to win the tournament.”

In the early shutout win, Nicole Vanni set up Mariela Pimentel for the first score, and Hannah Obanni made it 2-0 before half off a Stephanie Vanni corner kick.

In the second half, Michaela Scott scored on a Sydnne Koscielcki assist, and Joana Ortiz helped on a Brooke Grant goal.

Sierra will now prepare for the Vern Gephardt Tournament which begins at home Friday starting at noon.

Up first for the T’Wolves will be Central Catholic.
