East Union again came up short of upsetting the Valley Oak League’s second-place team on Thursday, as Kimball came back to escape Dalben Center with a 22-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-11 win.
“Tonight was a heartbreaker,” East Union coach Chelsea Herrera said.
The Lancers (2-5, 7-6 overall) previously dropped a five-set loss at Kimball (6-1, 15-4) three weeks ago. Herrera said the disparity of experience was evident in the rematch.
“Our girls the first two games were moving their feet really well, talking and communicating,” she said. “Then the jitters set in. Experience was key. They (Kimball) have a lot of experience and it showed tonight. They did all the little things right.”
Her core four juniors led the way. Savannah LeBarre clobbered 20 kills while gathering 15 digs, five aces and three blocks. Miekayla Surnip contributed 12 kills, seven digs, 17 assists and two aces. Baylee Spencer chimed in with four kills and 16 blocks. Melissa Scogna added seven kills, 12 blocks and five digs.
East Union looks to bounce back next Monday at rival East Union.
