VOLLEYBALL: Manteca, Lathrop, RC sweep league matches

After missing the last two Valley Oak League matches, middle blocker Karlie Spohn returned to action for Manteca on Monday and helped the Buffaloes roll to a 25-7, 25-2, 25-9 sweep against visiting Kimball.

Spohn contributed seven kills, six blocks and 12 service points in the win. Manteca (8-1 VOL, 20-5 overall) remains on pace to claim at least a share of the league championship with three matches remaining.

Setter Arielle Chandler facilitated the offense, tallying 29 assists. Abbey Kadillak led the back row with 16 kills. Courtney Washburn aided the attack with 10 kills and five locks. Camrenne Genilla had seven kills, and Kimberly Yu tagged five kills to go with five digs.

 

Ripon Christian 3, Denair 0

The Knights’ stay at Denair was short, as their strong serving was enough to secure a 25-7, 25-8, 25-3.

Ripon Christian (11-0 Southern Athletic League, 29-5 overall) totaled 25 aces with Kailee Alejandre accounting for eight of them. Emily Van Groningen fired nine kills, and Jenna Hofman dished out 21 assists.

 

Lathrop 3, Grace Davis 0

Hailey Grant spearheaded a balanced attack with eight kills in Lathrop’s 25-9, 25-21, 25-22 victory.

Alaba Olaleye chipped in in seven kills and was followed by LaNicia Ellis’ five kills and two blocks. Camila De La Garza accumulated 25 assists. Thracylie Acoba picked up nine digs.

 

Junior varsity

Ripon Christian 2, Denair 0

Lean Van Wyngarden registered eight kills and five aces to highlight a lopsided 25-7, 25-4 win for the Knights.

Dayna Koolhaas also served five aces. Megan Weststeyn distributed 19 assists and Ally Brown led the defense with four digs.

 

Manteca 2, Kimball 0

Libero Emily Inderbitzin was an all-around contributor in the 25-17, 25-20 sweep, finishing with two kills, three aces and an assists with 10 digs.

Corrine Jones highlighted the match with a rally from the service line. Amy Mangat came up with a key ace that helped secure the win. Susie Moreno provided consistency in the back row.

 

Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0

Alondra Basulto, Elizabeth Jade Andrade (two aces) and Za’Ryah Mageo swatted four kills apiece as Lathrop cruised to a 25-14, 25-17 victory.

Liliana Navarro served seven aces and had three kills. Julissa Aguilar contributed three kills and three aces. Celeste Narvarez collected seven digs, and Janessa Ward delivered 15 assists.

 

Freshman

Manteca 2, Kimball 1

The Buffs shook off a slow start for an 18-25, 25-9, 15-8 home win.

Amil Gaskins racked up 10 kills and two blocks. Jayana Dias rung up four assists and six aces. Angela Camarena handed out five assists, while Nicole Ayala had seven digs and three aces.
