Lindsey Walljasper led Sierra to a 16-0 win over visiting Weston Ranch on Monday, striking out 12 of the 13 batters she faced in the five-inning mercy rule win to start the Valley Oak League softball campaign.

“It was Lindsey’s show,” Timberwolves coach Vic DeAnda said. “She had a perfect game going into the fourth when she walked the leadoff batter.

“Everyone got to play, and mostly everyone got to hit. It was the first league game and it was exciting to start it off with a win.”

Walljasper was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Tierra Solara two RBI for Sierra (1-0 VOL, 4-3 overall). The Cougars drop to 0-1, 1-2.

LATHROP – The Mustangs (1-0, 4-3) put up 10 runs in the first inning and added five more in the fifth before coasting to the road win.

Trailing 20-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans (0-1, 1-9) put up five runs but that was not enough to stop the game from being called to the mercy rule.

“We finally decided to hit,” Lathrop coach Brian Keeney said. “We put six hits together in the fifth.”

Isabel Terra led the Spartans, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, double and a run. Sam Sales was 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI; Chanelle Prado, Ashley Del Barrio and Christina Chavez were all 1 for 2 and Jailyn Annese was 1for 3.
