Weston Ranch’s softball team capped a 2-2-1 run with a win and a tie in the prestigious Nor Cal Classic held in Tracy last Saturday.

The Cougars did well to battle Franklin of Elk Grove to a 5-5 draw in their second game Saturday.

“We were short five players due to our prom being held on the same night,” Weston Ranch coach Janelle Bauer said. “The girls really stepped up, even the girls we had to bring up from the JV team to fill in.”

Sophomores Vanessa Contreras and Arianna Hernandez each drove in a pair of runs against Franklin.

Weston Ranch opened the day with a 14-2 drubbing of Castilleja of Palo Alto. The game lasted only 3 ½ innings.

Hernandez pitched the Cougars to victory. Alexandera Alvarado was 2 for 2 with three RBIs, and Miranda Holmes drove in two in a 2-for-3 effort. Hernandez helped her own cause with an RBI triple.

Weston Ranch (10-7-1) returns to Valley Oak League action today against visiting Oakdale, starting a three-games-in-three-days stretch that resumes with home games against Sonora and Manteca.
