Weston Ranch smashes Oakdale in complete win

Weston Ranch kept its pace with Valley Oak League-leading Kimball Tracy on Thursday after making easy work of visiting Oakdale, 9-0.

“This was our most complete win of the season,” Weston Ranch head coach Jason Furtado said. “Oakdale is a tough opponent and played well tonight. We were prepared and relaxed going in, which gave us some confidence on the court.”

The Cougars’ No. 1 singles player Kevin Yamayoshi defeated Chandler Johnson (6-4, 6-1). Suhkman Singh picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the Weston Ranch No. 2 singles slot.

Carl Legaspi (6-0, 2-6, 6-2) and Raymond Lagoc (1-6, 6-2, 6-2) each picked up three-set victories. Chai Saepharn, Weston Ranch’s No. 5 singles player, picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win. Josh Gonzales picked up his team’s sixth singles point with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Oakdale’s Josh Niendorf.

In doubles play, Weston Ranch’s No. 1 team of Adrian Andrade and Andrew Albino picked up a three-set victory (6-4, 5-7, 6-4). Tepaul Bainiwal and Ion Obiso won 6-1, 6-3. Jesse Nisperos and Andrew Gonser (6-3, 6-2) completed the sweep with a two-set win.



Sonora 6, Sierra 3

Sierra’s first four singles players were unable to pick up points during a road loss against Sonora.

Anthony Alcantar, the Timberwolves’ No. 5 singles player, earned a 5-7, 6-1, 10-3 victory over Sonora’s Austin Page. Sierra’s Raymond Bailon (No. 1), Keegan S’Somza (No. 2), Michael Alcantar (No. 3), Alex Len (No. 4) and Alvino Diaz (No. 6) all lost in straight sets.

Sierra’s No. 2 doubles team of Jonnel Alcantara and Laic Beugre earned a 6-4, 6-4 win. The No. 3 doubles team of Jonathan Weatherby and Enrique Salgado won 8-6 for the T’Wolves’ last point.
