East Union simply could not keep up as visiting Weston Ranch pushed the pace in a 75-43 loss on Friday.
After the two teams battled to an 11-11 stalemate in the first quarter, the Cougars (4-0 Valley Oak League, 12-3 overall) surged to a 39-22 halftime lead and continued to pour it on from there.
“They just sped the game up, used turnovers to their advantage and took some quick shots,” East Union coach Ryan Tarr said. “They want to force the tempo and we want to slow it down. They started out on a big run in the second quarter and it was uphill from there.”
Makhi Turner thrived for Weston Ranch at that pace, finishing with 19 points and eight assists. Titus Haley contributed 13 points and five assists, while Devin Small and Micah Vasser each scored 11 points.
The Lancers (0-4, 4-13), who have dropped six straight, got 14 points from Blake Greenlee. It doesn’t get any easier for them, as they face VOL co-leader Central Catholic next Wednesday. Weston Ranch hosts Kimball on Wednesday but will first square off with powerhouse Modesto Christian tonight at 7 p.m. in the Modesto Christian MLK Showase.
