SAN JOSE  (AP) — Carlos Sano, Joey Marciano and Peter Lannoo combined for a shutout as the San Jose Giants beat the Modesto Nuts 2-0 on Monday.

Sano (5-5) picked up the win after he struck out two while allowing six hits over six scoreless innings. Austin Hutchison (3-4) went five innings, allowing one run and four hits while striking out four in the California League game. Lannoo pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his second save of the season.

San Jose scored its runs when Brandon Van Horn and Johneshwy Fargas hit solo home runs in the third and eighth innings.

The Nuts were blanked for the 14th time this season, while the Giants’ staff recorded their ninth shutout of the year.
