• Vick shaken up, Eagles top Patriots 27-17: FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Michael Vick keeps taking his lumps. His Philadelphia Eagles keep winning.

The star quarterback was leveled after throwing a long pass in the first quarter and underwent X-rays for the second straight game — negative again. Then backup Nick Foles led the Eagles to a 27-17 preseason victory over the New England Patriots on Monday night.

Vick had X-rays on his ribs after being knocked down by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham. Eleven days earlier, in a 24-23 win over Pittsburgh, he had X-rays on his left thumb after hitting it on center Jason Kelce’s helmet.

Foles threw two touchdown passes for the second straight game for the Eagles (No. 8 in the AP Pro32).

Tom Brady sat out the game for the Patriots (No. 2)



GOLF

• Augusta National adds first 2 female members: NEW YORK (AP) — For the first time in its 80-year history, Augusta National Golf Club has female members.

The home of the Masters has invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first women in green jackets when the club opens for a new season in October.

Both women have accepted. The invitations end a 10-year controversy that began when former club chairman Hootie Johnson said the club would not be pressured “at the point of a bayonet” to change its all-male membership.

Augusta National chairman Billy Payne described Monday’s announcement as a “joyous occasion” as he took the rare step of confirming its latest two members. He says it is a “significant and positive time” at the club. Augusta typically does not discuss membership.



• Garcia claims 2-stroke win at rainy Wyndham: GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Sergio Garcia claimed a two-stroke victory Monday in the rain-delayed Wyndham Championship to earn his first PGA Tour victory since the 2008 Players Championship.

Garcia finished with a 66 to wind up at 18-under 262 and claim $936,000 in prize money.

Tim Clark was at 16 under following his 67 in the PGA Tour’s final event before the playoffs, and Bud Cauley finished 15 under after his 68.

Garcia led both after the third round and when the fourth round was held up overnight due to a persistent downpour.

He had three straight late-round birdies after a bogey briefly dropped him into a tie for the lead, and cruised to his eighth career PGA Tour victory.

• Indians Perez doesn’t regret incident with A’s fan: SEATTLE (AP) — Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez says he won’t apologize after being caught on camera in a profanity-laced verbal exchange with a taunting Oakland A’s fan.

“I don’t regret it,” Perez said before Monday’s game with Seattle of the incident that took place the day before. “Looking back it’s not the best thing to be on the Internet and stuff. I had no idea they were videotaping it. I wouldn’t have done it. Looking back, that’s what he was planning. So he got me.

“You have to live and learn. Luckily, I didn’t say too bad of stuff. It was pretty, bad, but it could have been worse.”

The video, which has gone viral, shows the back of Perez while he’s yelling at the fan. Perez said the exchange needs to be put in context. He said that particular fan has been riding him in Oakland for the past four years when he shags balls in the outfield before the game.
