Tolbert, Basabe lead Visalia past Modesto

MODESTO  (AP) — L.T. Tolbert hit a run-scoring double in the fifth inning, and Luis Alejandro Basabe had four hits and two RBI as the Visalia Rawhide topped the Modesto Nuts 6-0 on Sunday.

The double by Tolbert, part of a three-run inning, gave the Rawhide a 3-0 lead before Basabe hit an RBI single later in the inning.

Visalia starter Josh Green (7-1) picked up the win after allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings. Opposing starter Penn Murfee (3-2) took the loss in the California League game after allowing four runs and eight hits over five innings.

The Nuts were held scoreless for the seventh time this season, while the Rawhide’s staff recorded their sixth shutout of the year.

 SAN JOSE 13, 

STOCKTON 1: 

SAN JOSE  (AP) — David Villar had four hits and three RBI, and Matt Frisbee hurled seven scoreless innings as the San Jose Giants topped the Stockton Ports 13-1 on Sunday.

Frisbee (4-6) picked up the win after he struck out six and walked one while allowing three hits.

San Jose had a pair of big innings in the blowout victory, scoring four runs in the third inning and five in the eighth.

In the third, Joey Bart hit a two-run home run, while Villar drove in three runs and Jett Manning drove in two in the eighth.

Xavier Altamirano (3-4) went five innings, allowing six runs and 10 hits in the California League game. He also struck out three and walked one.

STOCKTON 18, SAN JOSE 6

 SAN JOSE (AP) —Mickey McDonald hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning to help lead the Stockton Ports to an 8-6 win over the San Jose Giants on Saturday.

Josh Watson scored the go-ahead run on the sacrifice fly after he started the inning on second and advanced to third on a single by Robert Mullen. Later in the inning, Stockton added an insurance run when Mullen scored on a single by Alfonso Rivas.

The Ports tied the game 6-6 in the ninth when Trace Loehr hit an RBI single, scoring Rivas.

Jeremy Eierman homered and tripled, scoring two runs in the win. Rivas doubled twice and singled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple.

Wandisson Charles (2-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Peter Lannoo (0-1) took the loss in the California League game.

SACRAMENTO 7,  ALBUQUERQUE 2

 SACRAMENTO  (AP) — Abiatal Avelino doubled and singled, and Ty Blach allowed just four hits over 6 1/3 innings as the Sacramento River Cats defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 7-2 on Sunday.

Blach (3-4) picked up the win after he struck out six and walked one while allowing two runs.

Sacramento started the scoring in the first inning when Austin Slater hit an RBI single and then scored on an out.

After Sacramento added three runs in the sixth, the Isotopes cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Drew Weeks hit a sacrifice fly and Roberto Ramos hit an RBI double.

Jeff Hoffman (4-4) went six innings, allowing five runs and eight hits in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out eight and walked one.

With the win, Sacramento improved to 8-2 against Albuquerque this season.
