ATWATER – The Lancer Youth Wrestling Club sent nine wrestlers to the SJWA Championships Saturday at Buhach Colony High, and three ended up placing, while 95-pound intermediate grappler Jaysen Reindel walked away with tournament gold.
“It was an open tournament,” LYWC founder and head coach A.J. Reindel said. “Anyone could compete. There was a little more competition, but for just our second year, we wrestled well. It was a good showing.”
Besides Jaysen Reindel, cadet 125-pounder DJ Reindel took third, and novice 100-pounder Eli Willis was runner-up in his weight class.
Brandon Dominguez (int.; 65 pounds) went 1-2, as did Anthony Salgado (nov.; 75) and Kody Justis (nov.; 120).
Jason Betlej (nov.; 75), Tyler Ryan (cad.; 105) and James Vega (cad.; 135) all went 0-2.
The LYWC will head to Pitman High in Turlock next weekend for the second to last tournament of the freestyle season.
The state meet will be held in Fresno over the first weekend of June.
The LYWC practices every Monday and Wednesday in the EU wrestling room.
