Patricia Hughes, founder and president of the Democratic Women’s Club of Stanislaus County, said that a presidential election year is the perfect time to get involved with the political process.
While the DWCS encourages women of all ages to participate in the political process, “We do not focus solely on just issues for women,” said Hughes.
“Our mission is to promote and advocate for our Democratic values and principles,” she said.
Hughes said they work to recruit and elect Democratic candidates and actively participate in voter education, work to increase voter registration and provide a forum for civil discussion.
“We pledge to work effectively with Democratic organizations in our community, throughout the State of California and the nation,” she said.
The DWCS does encourage women of all ages to participate in the political process. They aim to educate, empower and help turn up the volume on voices and issues that need to be heard and addressed.
“We will strive to support the issues of women, children and families,” said Hughes. “We honor and recognize local, statewide and national inspiring women who are brought to our area to meet women in our community; it’s momentous.”
Hughes says that it would be “an extraordinary event to witness a woman become President of the United States in her lifetime,” but noted that the DWCS does not discriminate and has male and female members, as well as promotes both male and female Democratic candidates.
The Democratic Women’s Club of Stanislaus County meets monthly on the second Saturday at 11 a.m. at Denny’s in Modesto. For more information, email Hughes at DemWomensClub@gmail.com.
