Temptations appear Dec. 15 at Jackson Rancheria

JACKSON  – Make The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, part of your holiday celebrations this year when the group performs a special Christmas show at the All New Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Dennis Edwards began singing at the age of two in his fathers’ church. His family moved to Detroit when he was seven. As a high school student, he sang with the Crowns of Joy gospel group, and then in 1961 he organized his own soul/jazz group, Dennis Edwards and the Fireballs.

Before joining The Contours in 1967, Edwards recorded a single for the obscure Detroit label, International Soulville Records. The single was a track called “I Didn’t Have to (But I Did).”

Edwards was the first new Temptation to enter the Motown group after their “classic five” heyday, when he replaced David Ruffin as lead singer in July 1968.

With his rougher gospel-hewn vocals, Edwards led the group through its psychedelic, funk and disco periods. Two of the Temptations songs he appears on, “Cloud Nine” (1968) and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” (1972), won Grammy Awards.

Edwards was the lead singer on many of the other Temptations hits including “I Can’t Get Next To You,” “Ball of Confusion,” “Psychedelic Shack” and “My Girl.”

The other members of the group are tenor David Sea, baritone Mike Pattillo and Paul Williams Jr., son of the late Paul Williams Sr. of the original Temptations.

The show starts at 7 p.m. in the Grand Oak Ballroom. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now. Dreamcatcher’s Club members can get discount tickets for just $20 each, only at the Casino Cage. Non-member tickets are $40, available online and at the Casino Cage. All tickets are general admission. Must be 21 or older to purchase tickets or attend the show.
