RIPON - It was a complete “outside the box” community effort on the part of the Ripon High Student Council as they collected some 150 plush toys for children who will be patients at several area hospitals including Doctors Hospital of Manteca.
ASB President Miranda Myers said the plush toy animals involved a “Teddy Bear toss” where student and teacher fans were asked to bring their donations to the school’s basketball games. During half time they would all toss their toys onto the floor of the gym.
Myers noted that two competing basketball teams, Escalon and Riverbank, brought stuffed toys to their Ripon games as well.
Activities Director Randy Machado told Doctors Chief Nursing Officer Pidge Gooch that he saw the need first hand in providing the animals of every description when his younger brother was hospitalized recently noting children patients needed something extra.
In addition to Doctors Hospital of Manteca, the students also donated their toys ranging from Teddy Bears and elephants to Pillow Pets to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton.
