Manteca’s first major apartment construction project in six years will break ground this spring.

The Planning Commission when they meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Manteca Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St., is expected to approve a tentative subdivision map to clear the way for the 153-unit Belgaio Apartments to break ground on Atherton Drive near the Union Pacific tracks east of Seeno Drive.

The complex’s exterior will be a kissing cousin of the upscale Paseo Apartments to the west even though Belgaio is being built for low- and moderate-income renters.

Belagio will consist of a tot lot, BBQ area, and community room with kitchen, fitness room, computer room, and laundry facilities. Each unit would have blinds, carpeting, patios, and appliances.
