A Manteca woman and her two sons were injured Friday at about 5:30 p.m. when their car collided in a grinding head-on collision with a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, according to CHP officers.
Stephanie Cole’s white 1996 Toyota Paseo passenger car was struck by the truck after its driver Gregory Gallup, 37, had passed two other cars in the rain and didn’t get back into his lane in time to avoid the crash, witnesses told officers.
Firefighters from the Ripon Consolidated Fire Department cut Cole and her two sons out of the vehicle with the Jaws of Life. The 15-year-old reportedly suffered head injuries and broken bones in the crash.
He had been sitting in the front right passenger side of the vehicle that took the brunt of the crash. The 11-year-old was treated at the scene in the Ripon Ambulance.
A medical helicopter was called to the crash site with officers planning to guide it into a landing at the nearby Weston Elementary School. A low cloud ceiling kept the helicopter grounded, however. Ripon police officers assisted in the crash as first responders.
A Manteca ambulance also responded to the scene and the mother and son were transported to the Doctors Medical Center Trauma Unit in Modesto. Their conditions were not available at press time.
The pickup truck continued another 150 feet eastward after the crash and collided into a telephone pole on the north side of West Ripon Road. Gallup was said to be uninjured, seen standing by the side of the road as CHP officers completed their report.
West Ripon Road was closed for nearly two hours during the investigation of the collision. Eastbound traffic was diverted down Fredrick Road.
