Leo T. Torres

Army Pvt. Leo T. Torres has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions.  Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Torres is the son of Gilbert Torres of Manteca.

He is a 2010 graduate of Manteca High School.



Mitchell Green


Army National Guard Pfc. Mitchell D. Green has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

 During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Green is the son of Sabrina Green of Ripon.

He is a 2011 graduate of Ripon High School.



James L. Gonzales


Army Pfc. James L. Gonzales has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

 Gonzales is the son of Robert Gonzales of Manteca.

He is a 1994 graduate of East Union High School.



Ryan Karas


Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan D. Karas, son of Robin and Dan Karas of Manteca , is currently deployed. Karas along with fellow Sailors and Marines aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) and Carrier Strike Group (CSG) are conducting training and promoting the Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign throughout the month of April.
