Sixty-five cents of every general fund dollar the City of Manteca spends this fiscal year will pay for public safety.

That includes 40 cents of every $1 or $37,517,862 for police and 25 cents of every dollar or $29,079,100 for fire.

The rest of each general fund dollar is spent as follows:

*10 cents for parks and recreation.

*8 cents for public works.

*6 cents for community development.

*5 cents for administration and finance.

*3 cents for library services.

*3 cents for other services.

The general fund — that covers day-to-day municipal operations such as police, fire, streets and parks— is projected to see revenue top $87 million.

That is up from last year’s $80.4 million.

Services such as water, sewer, and solid waste collection are enterprise funds. That means they are free-standing and not supported by the general fund but month rates that users pay to cover maintenance, operations, and need capital improvements due to aging or damage.

Citywide, the overall budget — once sewer, water and solid waste as well as growth fee accounts, special funds, street projects, capital improvement projects and restricted funds such as the $15 million state grant for the homeless navigation center construction that will be tapped into this year — comes to $391 million.

That’s up from $310 million in the fiscal year that ended June 30.

The general fund assigned reserves — broken down by categories such as economic capital needs were projected at $35.1 million as of July 1, up $100,000 from last year.

There is also $2.4 million in unassigned reserves.
