Reasons to gather downtown are starting to grow as the Market on Maple farmers market in the 100 blocks returns this Saturday for its weekly run through October.
*The owners of the two-story Old City Hall building in the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue are working toward locating a restaurant and/or coffee shop on the ground floor with offices on the second floor.
*The city is working with a partner to pursue a multi-story housing project on the corner of Yosemite and Sycamore avenues on a former parking lot that the city purchased last year.
*Final work is being done to a former county health clinic the city bought in the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue to relocate code enforcement, the fire marshal, and community service offices downtown.
*Brethren Brewing Company opened earlier this year in the 200 block of North Main Street.
*Work is proceeding to open the Deaf Puppy Comedy Club in the 100 block of North Main Streety.
*Murals are being planned for the south facing wall of the comedy club as well as on the building on the southeast corner of Yosemite Avenue and Main Street.
*A new tile showroom is opening in the former billiards hall in the 200 block of West Yosemite.
*The city is looking at converting Wilson Park behind the post office at Center Street and Sycamore Avenue into the community’s second dog park.
*Negotiations will start soon on a private-public partnership to establish a food truck court concern in the southern part of Library Park.
*The city’s attorney office is advancing code enforcement efforts to start addressing several problematic buildings downtown.
*Downtown businesses and property owners are now meeting to discuss plans they can implement to help the central district move forward.
“Downtown Manteca is definitely on the move,” said Interim City Manager Toni Lundgren who was among those attending Saturday’s Avenue of Our Heroes commemoration in downtown.
Since last year’s market was launched, The Veranda Events Center opened in the 100 block of East Yosemite while Rice-N-Rolled restaurant opened in the 100 block of West Yosemite.
Market on Maple is a certified farmers market that is on Saturdays from the start of May to the end of October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Maple Avenue in front of the post office.
