Backyard fences along McKee Boulevard from River Islands Parkway to Towne Center Driver have fallen into disrepair.
What should be done about the situation will be before the Lathrop City Council when they meet Monday, April 8, at 7 p.m.
The fences are part of the Mossdale Landing neighborhood built in 2004.
The backyard wood fences are privately owned and are failing after 20 years of service.
In a report to the council, staff notes homeowners are replacing fences sporadically, creating a mix of styles, quality and colors along a main collector road.
Residents have requested a new fence or wall along McKee Boulevard from River Islands Parkway to Towne Centre Drive to maintain aesthetics and security.
The only way for the City to maintain aesthetic consistency and security is to build and maintain another fence or wall within the public right of way that is parallel to the private fences.
There is adequate space to install a fence or a wall parallel to existing fences within the city right of way.
There are two options being presented for the council to consider:
*$550,000 for a wooden fence.
*$2.1 million for a masonry wall.
Staff is seeking direction from the council on which option, if any, the city should pursue.
