What if there were only “8 Minutes Left?”

That so happens to be the title of the Lathrop High School Centre Stage Theatre’s fall production scheduled for the upcoming weekend of Nov. 14-15 and the following, Nov. 21-22 – in all, six performances at the LHS Performing Arts Theater, 647 Spartan Way.

“We have a lot more freshmen this year,” said Hillary Pangburn, who is the Centre State Theatre advisor.

For her more seasoned performers, “8 Minutes Left” by E.B. Lee provided some challenges.

“They got to explore some intense characters,” Pangburn said.

The play consisting of 45 cast and crew members is about residents of Charlesville, NJ, who must navigate their final moments on Earth.

The world is coming to an end at precisely 4:44 p.m. and no one has any time to prepare.

For LHS students of the Centre Stage Theatre, “8 Minutes Left” is a show from top to bottom that they’ve been working on since the middle of September.

Students were involved in crafting props and costumes, managing lights and sound from the tech booth, calling out cues backstage, and making it all work by their performances on stage.

The play includes a couple with a bunker that they can’t quite figure out how to open, two elderly frenemies sparring over their favorite park bench, and a mother watching her children play while imagining the future they will never see.

“There are some light-hearted moments,” Pangburn said.

Opening night is Friday, Nov.  14 at 7 p.m. with two performances – 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. – on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Showtimes for the following weekend will be Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m., and two more (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.) on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Tickets are $12.10 (a processing fee will also be applied) and can be purchased online at www.onthestage.tickets.
