The Ripon Recycling Center will be closed on Monday in observance to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Changes to the City of Ripon facility on Industrial Avenue will be coming soon after.

On Feb. 1, the recycling center will be expanding hours of operation.

Director of Public Works James Pease made that announcement at Tuesday's Ripon City Council meeting.

An extra day has been added for residential use.

Those hours will be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

A portion of the proceeds will go to students of the Ripon Unified School District.

The City added one commercial day — Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon — for local businesses.

Councilman Mike Restuccia, meanwhile, applauded the efforts of the volunteers at the recycling center.

"They're doing a great job," he said.

Restuccia noted the recent increased numbers of vehicles lined up to drop off their recyclables. He was particularly impressed with the speediness and efficiency of the operation.

"We're hoping with the increased day that the wait time will diminish," Pease said.
