The long awaited reconstruction of the Tidewater Bikeway between Louise Avenue to Lathrop Road is targeted for later this year.
The work had been programmed previously but got bumped back due to higher priorities.
More precisely it involved a number projects involving federal COVID relief funds that had to be spent by this year or returned, according to Parks, Recreation, & Transit Director Brandy Clark.
Clark confirmed there is funding for the Tidewater work.
In addition, crack seal work for the Lathrop Road through the Union Ranch East neighborhood is in review to possibly be tackled during 2027.
That last pavement work on the Tidewater was on the Main Street to Center Street that occurred in mid-2023 following work from Center Street to Louise Avenue in late 2022.
Tree work took place from Louise Avenue to Lathrop Road in early 2025.
The only segment without significant work programmed is the Main Street to Moffat Boulevard segment.
That’s because in the next two years when the ACE passenger platform and lot work is done connecting with the existing Transit Center parking lot, the alignment of the Tidewater will need to shift to accommodate the footprint as well as a passenger loading zone.
The Tidewater extends for 3.7 miles from Moffat Boulevard to Union Ranch North. It will continue north to the site of the new 60-acre community park planned in north Manteca.
The bike path runs along the former alignment of the Tidewater Southern Railroad.
Overall, it encompasses more than 34 acres.
