Ripon pitcher Titus De La Torre kept Salida off balance the entire contest Tuesday so it was only fitting that he began a 1-6-3 double play to end the game, throwing to Zachary Reynolds at second to Jack Painter at first, giving Ripon a 10-0 four-inning mercy rule win for the District 67 8-10-year-old all-star championship at Brock Elliott School.
Ripon returns to Brock Elliott Saturday, July 18, at 1 p.m. to kick off the Section 6 Championships.
De La Torre allowed just two hits, striking out five and walking three.
Ripon emerged from the consolation bracket, defeating Salida 12-2 Monday night behind 13 hits. Ripon racked up 12 hits Tuesday.
“It wasn’t easy at all to do this twice in a row,” Ripon coach Alex Anderson said. “They were a heck of a ball team and they played their butts off. We just had to show up and do what we do.
“We are excited to be moving on. The Ripon 10U team did it last year and we are excited to carry the torch on and keep it going and make all of Ripon baseball known.”
Ripon posted four runs on four hits in the fourth, highlighted by a Klaas Winters RBI double, scoring Cameron Gonzales (2-2, run) from first. Winters came in on a Painter groundout, De La Torre (3 for 3, three runs) singled and worked his way around to score on a throwing miscue and Austin Gutierrez (three runs) walked and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Casen Anderson (2 for 3, three RBI).
Only one player on the Ripon roster did not reach base. Zachary Reynolds went 2 for 3, Luke Jasper doubled and scored with River Kontos and Owen Viss each knocking in a run.
