SALIDA — Northgate came out swinging Thursday with a six-hit, six-run first inning and rolled to a 14-4 five-inning mercy rule win over Manteca in the District 67 Little League All-Star Tournament semifinal at Salida Park.
In that first-inning Northgate blitz, Grant Adams (home run two RBI, two runs) belted a two-run home run scoring Isaac Aguilar (2 for 3, two RBI, double, two runs), Aguilar doubled in Luis Puig and Dylan Quinton (2 for 2, two RBI, run), Quinton singled in Romeo Huerta (2 for 2, RBI, run) and Huerta plated Jase O’Brien (2 for 3, RBI two runs).
Colton Coenenberg put Northgate ahead 14-4 in the top of the fifth with an RBI single which proved to be the game-ending run, plating Isaiah Ledesma. Earlier in the frame, Aguilar and Adams scored on a two-run error.
Hunter Reynolds (2 for 3) and Aldo Miramontes led off the Northgate fourth with back-to-back singles. Reynolds (2 for 3, run) scored on a single by Tristan O’Brien (2 for 3, RBI, double, run) and Miramontes came across on Jase O’Brien’s single with Jase O’Brien scooting home on Quinton’s single. Max Ussery scored the other run in the four-run fourth on an error.
After Manteca got its four runs in the second inning, Jase O’Brien took the mound for Northgate and in the final three innings he allowed a double and a walk, striking out five and walking one.
A two-run home run by Dexter Dahle highlighted the four-run Manteca second, scoring Tino Marinakis. Four singles in the next four batters yielded two more runs, with Juien Rodriguez coming in on an Alex Gomes infield single and Westley De Hart plating Gomes on a single to make the score 7-4. Manteca would get just two more baserunners in the game.
Northgate advances to the championship round next Thursday at 6 p.m. Manteca plays in the consolation final on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
