Nine-year-old Isabella Martinez wore a smile matched only by the sparkling stars dancing in her eyes.
The Brock Elliott fourth-grader had every reason to be smiling at the last Manteca Unified board meeting. Isabella was the winner in the 2010 Spelling Bee competition held in November by correctly spelling “rambunctious.” She cinched the coveted first-place title in the fourth- through sixth-grade competition by giving the correct spelling of “incriminate.”
The avid reader was one of the youngest participants in the district’s Spelling Bee contest.
Also recognized but was unable to attend by the school board were Joshua Cowell School sixth-grader Inder Rondhawa who placed second in the Spelling Bee, and August Knodt School’s Rachel Kudla who placed third.
