Ripon City Council meetings could someday be televised.

On Tuesday, elected leaders unanimously approved to direct staff to research cost and feasibility to air these public sessions.

“This would give the public the ability to receive information and see how this council operates,” Vice Mayor Chuck Winn said.

He pointed out at the City of Stockton regularly airing its council meetings on a public access channel and the City of Manteca’s recent technology upgrades of about $176,000 for the first stage.

“We’re not directing staff to spend that much but to look at the cost of televising our meetings,” Winn added.

He said that Dan Brannon, who is the city’s Information System Technician, has ideas on how this can be accomplished at a reasonable cost.

“We can do it for a lot less even if it’s not sophisticated,” Winn said.

Councilman Jake Parks is all for it.

“We need to be as transparent as possible,” he said. “We need to get people as involved as possible

“This can be a way for council to reach out to the public.”
