LATHROP – Those at Joseph Widmer School are working to make a difference for Thanksgiving.
Thanks to the efforts of Vice Principal Annette Roberts-Murray, a turkey and canned food drive to help feed needy families was held at the school, going from Nov. 13 through today (Tuesday, Nov. 20).
“The community really stepped up,” she said on Monday.
Included were parents, teachers, and staff of the school. Altogether, they made possible 25 turkeys. Twenty of those turkeys were distributed to those Lathrop families on the list. Roberts-Murray said the remaining few to be given away prior to Thanksgiving.
“I thought this would be a good way to give back to the community,” said Roberts-Murray, who came up with plan to host the turkey and canned good drive.
She managed to contact the proper agencies to locate those families who needed the most help come this time of year.
The school is also hosting a coat drive to keep warm those in need during the fall and winter months.
