Agnes Ellen Richards age 94 passed away in Manteca on February 18, 2012. She was born in San Pedro, California on August 17, 1917. She lived with her father and brother after her mother passed away when she was only 6 years old. Agnes lived a number of her adult years in Lathrop where her father opened a gas station on Harlan Rd. At 17, Agnes worked at that station where she met her beloved husband of 70 years, Arthur. They resided on the Richard’s family farm for over 55 years.

Together they raised cattle and farmed the land as well as Agnes being a devoted homemaker. Arthur and Agnes loved to dance and were involved with the 5 Corner’s Dance Club for many years. Agnes volunteered for the Stockton Senior Center for 10 years and then over 15 + years at the Lathrop Senior Center. After Arthur’s death, Agnes went to live with her only child Merry DeClue in Livermore. They traveled to many places in her daughter’s RV to include Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore, Idaho, Seattle and attended multiple rallies with RVing Women, Escapees, FMCA and Loaners on Wheels RV Clubs. Agnes loved to travel with Merry and would often look at her daughter and say “Does this road ever end”?

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Richards and is survived by her only child Merry DeClue; grandchildren Alan DeClue, Nancy Melanson and Michael DeClue and five great grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary, 809 N. California St. in Stockton, with a reception immediately to follow at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Sunday at 1:30 pm at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.
