She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank F. Silva, Jr. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 66 years, Melvin Picanco and her two children, Debbie Brown (Floyd) and Stephen Picanco, as well as five grandchildren, Jeremy Muse (Anne), Jason Muse (Stefanie), Christopher Picanco (Marie), T.J. Picanco (Meghan) and Amy Clark (Steven). She would have welcomed her first great-great grandchild in July.
Dorothy and Mel lived an active and fulfilled life.  They lived in Sacramento for 55 years before moving to Manteca in 2008. Dorothy worked as a Personnel Clerk for the State of California in the Social Services Department for over 20 years. She began playing the piano at age 5 and with her years of experience, played as the organist for two Sacramento Parishes and taught piano lessons to children.  Described as “Mighty Mouse” Dorothy was small in stature, but big in heart. She was a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry and knitted hats for the homeless as well as newborn babies. Every member of her family had knitted Christmas Stockings she made with love for them.  She was President of the PTA when her own children were young and later became a Parent Advisor for their Church Choir. Dorothy was the Charter Member of the Sacramento Living History Program and the Blue Canyon Gang – Western Action Drama Group - which she and Mel loved participating in. She had season tickets to the symphony and loved musical theater productions. But her greatest love was her beloved Husband, Mel and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
