Jeffrey Von Essen K

Jeffrey Joseph Von Essen of Lodi, California passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018 at UC Davis Medical Center surrounded by his family and many caring doctors and nurses.
Jeff was born in Fresno, California on June 5, 1958 and attended schools in Visalia, Porterville and Manteca, graduating from East Union High School in 1977. He attended Delta College and San Diego State University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Jeff faced life with tenacity, extreme courage and grace. Despite life’s challenges, his outlook was hopeful and optimistic. He taught many life lessons to friends and family, encouraging countless people along the way. With dignity and strength, he fought through cancer, a lung transplant, and a kidney transplant. Jeff was a 20-year lung transplant survivor.
Jeff played many sports and especially loved football. (Go Raiders!) When his health allowed, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating. Jeff was an amazing cook and loved to barbeque. He loved spending quality time with friends and family, and had a special place in his generous heart for his nieces and nephews.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father Clyde Von Essen. He is survived by his mother Esther Von Essen; sisters Chris Williams (Bruce) and Julie Von Essen; and brothers Kevin Von Essen, Bob Von Essen (Leanne), and Ken Von Essen. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews:  Josh (Carly), Adam, Jessica, Emily (Johny), Sebastian, Tamara, Luis, Lucas, Tanya (Dustin), Evan, Harrison, Aubrey, Adalyn and Reef. We were honored to have had Jeff in our lives and will miss his contagious smile.
A memorial service and celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 660 Florin Rd., Sacramento.
