Roberta Cole Jensen Nichols passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the age of 101, in Lodi, CA.  Roberta “Bertie” was the first of seven children born to Loyd and Nellie Cole in Armour, SD August 16, 1922. 

   The family moved to Kansas in 1928 and to California in 1939. She graduated from Manteca High School in 1941 and in April attended her 82nd high school reunion.  Roberta worked for Kaiser Permanente in Manteca during the war. She also worked for Richmond Chase Packing Plant in Stockton and Petroleum Products Company. She retired in 1979 with the SJ County Department of Human Services.  After Retirement, she worked as a pink lady at Dameron Hospital and Delta Stationers in Lodi.

   Roberta married Jacob Jensen in 1944; he died in 1978. They had four children, Loyd Peter-infant deceased 1946, Roberta Wood (Brett), Robert Jensen-deceased 2022, and Greta McCarty (Matt). She married Elmer Nichols in 1985; he died in 2021 at 99

years of age.

   Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Nellie Cole, husbands Jacob and Elmer, sisters Lucile Firth and Dola Hamer, their husbands Robert and Bob, step-daughter Anne Fisher, brothers Robert (Bud) and Loyd Jr., their wives Gerry and Betty, brothers-in-laws Don Berg and Bill Heslop and grandson Mathew McCarty.

   She is survived by sisters Joyce Berg and Karen Heslop, daughters Roberta “Bobbie” Wood (Brett) and Greta McCarty (Matt) and Elmer’s sons Paul (Liz) and Wayne (Wanda), 13 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

   Memorial Services will be

Friday, September 8, 2023 at 1:00  p.m., at Lodi First United Methodist Church, 200 West Oak Street,

Lodi, CA. Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be

sent in Roberta’s name to Lodi FUMC.
