JustServe food collection helps those in need

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

On Saturday, JustServe Helping Hands set out to continue the food drive started the week before by LoveManteca. Over 110 friends and families gathered at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, grabbed maps and plastic bags, and fanned out over much of western Manteca, going door-to-door to ask for food.  In just under three hours, enough food was gathered to fill 46 boxes!  The food was quickly sorted and delivered by some of the same enthusiastic group.

We would like to express our thanks to Savemart and Raley’s for donating plastic bags for our use, and to Crossroads Grace Church for donating boxes, tape guns, and inspiration.  Mostly we are grateful to a generous community who opened their hearts and cupboards in an effort to stock the pantries of both Raymus House and St. Paul’s Church, both of whom serve the homeless among us consistently and well.  It was inspiring to be reminded that most people have good souls and contributed when they can.
