Gross powers Manteca all-stars to two victories in minor division

Manteca Little League’s minor-division all-stars surged into the District 67 Little League Tournament quarterfinals with two wins this past weekend in Tracy.

Manteca first blew past Tracy American’s ‘B’ team 10-0 in four innings Saturday before defeating crosstown rival Spreckels Park on Sunday, 10-1.

Powerful Dylan Gross slugged two home runs, including a grand slam against Spreckels Park, finishing 4 for 4. Isaac Maldonado added two doubles, and Jacob Moon pitched a complete-game three-hitter.

In the tournament opener, ace Ryan Ward needed just 46 pitches to get through the contest.

Gross hit an RBI double in the first inning to get Manteca going, and in the second Ferrin Manulelua, Bobby McConlogue and Maldonado each had an RBI hit to make it 4-0.

Manteca put the game on ice with two runs in the third and four more in the fourth.

Up next is Weston Ranch Friday at Jefferson School.

Northgate 1, Lathrop 0

Vince Cabeceiras struck out 13 in 5 2/3 innings and walked two to lead Northgate at Jefferson School Saturday. Devin Abrew struck out the final batter for the save.

Ross Tisdell Jr., Trevor Baum and Abrew each had a hit in the pitcher’s duel. Baum also plated the game’s lone run.

Northgate meets Tracy American Thursday at 5 p.m. in the winner’s-bracket quarterfinals.
