COVID-19 cancels Ripon varsity game with Weston Ranch

COVID-19 protocols have affected Ripon High's football team for a second straight week, this time canceling its varsity football game tonight against Weston Ranch.

The JV team will still face Manteca's freshmen starting at 5.

Last week, contact tracing forced multiple varsity players to miss their Valley Oak League affair at Manteca. Ripon athletic director Rod Wright confirmed Wednesday that additional cases have led to the cancellation the Indians' Week 3 contest.

It was the final home game of the season for Ripon (0-2), which is scheduled to finish at Escalon and Oakdale the next two weeks. As of press time, Wright was uncertain if the Escalon game would also be called off.

Contact tracing has already caused Cougars to miss out on their Weeks 2 and 3 contests. Their Week 3 opponent, Kimball, has found a replacement in Patterson, which was set to face off with Lathrop tonight. Lathrop of the Western Athletic Conference is also on a two-week hiatus because of coronavirus cases.
