LOWER LEVELS: East Union JV rides early barrage to shutout of Johansen

The East Union junior varsity put up 22 first-period points Friday in a 35-0 blanking of visiting Johansen of Modesto in non-league football action at Dino Cunial Stadium.

Izaiah Fay (77 yards rushing) scored on runs of 2 and 33 yards for the Lancers. Bobby Ramirez-Rin (70 yeards receiving) pulled in a 66-yard touchdown pass from Jonathan Morales (94 yards passing)

The Lancers defense scored twice – once on a 42-yard interception return by Ayden Brush (three tackles, two interceptions) and on a 32-yard fumble return by Junior Evans. Zack Behrbaum tallied six stops, Andon Robinson five with four each for Andres Duque and Bobby Ramirez-Rin. Bryce Hinrichs and Imagio Mack contributed to the defense.

Manteca 50, Chavez 13

The Buffaloes shut out the visiting Titans from Stockton in the second half.

Manteca’s Santino Sanchez (14 carries, 127 yards) scored on runs of 5, 11 and 38 yards while Vinnie Diaz (nine carries, 106 yards) added touchdown runs of 12 and 34 yards. Anthony Bowen (4 of 8 passing, 74 yards) connected with his favorite target of Aizen English (three receptions, 73 yards) for a 31-yard touchdown pass and Isaac Fountain started the Buffaloes scoring parade with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Manteca’s Devin Cortinas tallied four stops with three apiece for Eli Velasquez (interception) and Israel Juarez. Dylan Yanez and Izaiah Ramirez each forced a fumble.

Tracy 51, Lathrop 6

The visiting Spartans managed just one score.

Lathrop’s Cesar Rivera hit Jordan Cabral with a 60-yard touchdown pass.

Julian Acoba paced the Spartans defense with six stops. Jason Massey, Ethan Salango and Baylei Willson all contributed to the defense.

Ripon Christian 15, Calaveras 12

The host Knights posted a pair of second-half scores for the win.

Jonathon Postma (14 carries, 87 yards) got Ripon Christian on the board in the third quarter with a 1-yard plunge. Ryder Heuvel added another 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth period.

Deegan Vrieling and Jack Acosta led the Knights with five tackles apiece. Parker Grotberg added four stops and Maxwell Bettencourt recovered a fumble.

Freshman

Ripon 58, Pitman 0

Ripon’s Henry Cook and Reid Rangel racked up more than 300 combined yards and five touchdowns on Thursday in non-league action in Turlock.

Cook (five carries 170 yards) scored on runs of 28, 57 and 78 yards. Rangel (four carries, 140 yards) added scoring runs of 37 and 75 yards. Mason Dodson scored on a 6-yard run and 30-yard fumble return and Degan Nowlin capped the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run.

Tracy 13, Lathrop 6

The visiting Bulldogs scored all of their points in the second period at Bennie Gatto Field.

Lathrop’s Ayden Nungaray hit Demarcos Barajas (two receptions, 55 yards) with a 30-yard touchdown in the fourth period.

JuanPablo Flores and Carlos Rivera paced the Spartans with five stops apiece. Demarcos Barajas and Logan Martinez added four stops each with Kenneth Certuche recovered a fumble. Pablo Barbo and Johnny Slivas contributed to the defense.

Galt 42, Sierra 13

Faced with a hole in their schedule, the Timberwolves plugged it with the junior varsity Warriors.

Luke Akao scored on a kickoff return for the Timberwolves and Xavier Lima pulled in a touchdown toss from Luke Akao.

Sierra’s Ethan Teller recovered a fumble.

Manteca 40, Chavez 0

The visiting Buffaloes put up 34 first-half points behind four turnovers and Manteca scored on its first seven drives.

The Buffaloes used a balanced attack with Landon Viss (four carries, 65 yards) scoring on runs of 14, 16 and 20 yards; Kristian Miranda-Alvarez scoring on both of his runs of 32 and 28 yards; Brach Carabello (three carries, 41 yards) adding a 16-yard run and Damian Saldana (three carries, 37 yards) capping the scoring with a 5-yard run. Arieon Shortridge and Grant Catalano contributed to the offense.

Shortridge and Brayden Davis each snagged an interception and Allen Garcia recovered a fumble.
