OAKDALE — Lathrop dropped to 1-8 after a 56-21 loss to 5-4 Oakdale at The Corral.

Lathrop’s Nilo Yuson took a pass for 56-yard touchdown in the second quarter to cut the score to 14-7, but the Mustangs ran away to take a 35-7 halftime lead.

Josh Elliot scored on a 50-yard run with 9 minutes to go in the third quarter to put the score at 49-14. Andrew Gaynor reached the end zone on a 5-yard pass in the late in the fourth quarter for the final points.

The Mustangs’ wing-T backfield of Brock Whiting, Max Stevens and Darus Nelson all scored on rushing touchdowns, and defender Landon Ichord returned a 30-yard interception in the second quarter to put the Mustangs comfortably ahead 28-7.

In the second half, Mustang junior 14 Dillon Tamburrino completed a 5-yard pass to Darus Nelson for a TD that put Oakdale up 41-7. Nelson later added a 45-yard punt return for a TD to give him three scores on the night.
