The Ryan Teicheira saga began a new chapter Friday at Sierra, as the Timberwolves downed Enochs of Modesto 28-7 in Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium, which is named for his younger brother who passed away after his sophomore year.

Coach Teicheira has a long history with the Timberwolves as a player, a coach on the 2015 state championship team before leaving to coach at Oakdale and then Lathrop, returning to Sierra this season as head coach.

“I feel good,” Teicheira said. “The team has come a long ways. I am proud of the way they fought in the second half. We have a lot of things we have to clean up and a lot of things we need to get better at.

“They understand the emotion of the game, especially with the (Teicheira) family and the story behind everything with my brother Daniel. That is a special part about being back to continue a legacy Daniel began and had Sierra High football going in the right direction. He put it on the map, and we want to bring it back to that special place and what these kids should really understand about high-school football.”

The game got off to a rough start for Sierra (1-0). The Timberwolves fumbled the opening kickoff, but on the next play, Dominic Baluga recovered an Enochs fumble.

Sierra got on the board with 5:02 left in the first quarter on an 8-yad scoring throw from Jaysen Martinez (9 of 12 passing, 138 yards two touchdowns) to Sahib Padda-Singh.

“We started out slow in the first half and picked it up in the second half,” Martinez said. “When Blama (Kamara) scored, that gave us a lot of momentum.

“We can’t wait until the second half to start. But it was a good win.”

Martinez found Kamara in the fourth quarter with a 60-yard touchdown pass to put Sierra up 21-7. Kamara repeatedly put the Timberwolves in good field position with highlight-reel punt returns.

“Tonight, we came out slow, and after halftime we came out and gave it our all and got the ‘W’,” Kamara said. “I scored on a deep post, and it felt great. We got a lot of momentum from that.”

With Sierra running the clock out in the fourth quarter keeping it between the tackles, Damian Densmore exploded for a 15-yard scoring run up the middle to cap the scoring with 4 seconds remaining in the game.

“I saw my hole and someone came in and I ran right through his face,” Densmore said. “That was great.

“The second I saw him lower his pads I knew I was absolutely running through him.”

Venn Piedad blew through a wall of Eagles defenders midway through the third period to bull his way into the end zone to put Sierra ahead 14-7.

Giovanni Alvarez added a fumble recovery for the Timberwolves with Damien Salazar, Zavier San Nicolas and Densmore making key plays on defense. Sierra held Enochs (0-1) to 144 total yards with just one touchdown on a 37-yard pass by Chance Bunch.

Teicheira plays host to his old team Lathrop next Friday at 7 p.m.
