Christian Gonzalez brought work rate and work ethic across three different sports during his time at Sierra.

Meanwhile, Maitland Kohoutek was a multi-faceted threat in every sport she played.

They’re the Timberwolves’ 2026 All-Around Senior Athlete Award winners.

The duo also received the Leader of the Pack Award, which go to athletes earning varsity letters in three sports during their junior and senior years. Joining them are A.J. Chapman (football, basketball, baseball) and Teagan Nazzisi (football, wrestling, track and field).

Additionally, Sierra presents scholar-athlete awards to two female and two male varsity athletes who accumulated the highest GPA in their four years at the school. Scholar-Athlete Award winners are Sayed Ali (4.12), James Akinleye (4.1), Kathy Tran (4.01) and Charlene Trinh (4.1).

Gonzalez was a four-year standout as a distance runner for the cross country and track and field teams, which translated to the pitch in the winter.

In cross country, he qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships three times, earned All-Valley Oak League all four years and is the reigning individual league champion. Gonzalez set a personal record in his third trip to the state meet this past fall, finishing in 15 minutes, 49.7 seconds for 51st place in Division III. The time is also the second fastest ran by a Sierra runner at Woodward Park’s 3.1-mile course in Fresno.

Gonzalez totaled two goals and four assists in his four years on the varsity boys soccer team, but his main role was to prevent scoring. His speed and hard work keyed the back line, whether it was centrally or out wide. He was named to the All-VOL Second Team as a senior and Sierra’s Best Defensive Player.

In track, he was a key member of Sierra’s league championship squad this spring, while winning the VOL 800- and 1,600-meter titles. He went on to qualify for the SJS Masters meet for a second time, doing so in the 1,600 and 4x400. Gonzalez is also part of the school’s record-setting 4x800.

The 5-foot-11 Kohoutek made use of her length and versatility in flag football, soccer and softball. She’s continuing her soccer career at Division II Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

She was an instrumental figure in Sierra’s fledgling flag football program, which claimed its first varsity VOL title in 2024. Kohoutek is a three-time all-league selection. She split snaps as a dual-threat quarterback and receiver but was also a productive defensive backs, finishing with the sixth most interceptions in the SJS with 19 her senior year and 47 for her career.

Kohoutek also earned three all-league honors as a deep-lying playmaker and aerial threat in the box for the Timberwolves’ girls soccer team. The center midfielder helped Sierra win a league title her junior year, totaling 19 goals and 25 assists over 78 varsity matches in four varsity seasons. This past winter, she was named team MVP after scoring six goals and 11 assists.

Kohoutek then helped the Sierra softball team make its first postseason appearance since 2019. She earned All-VOL honorable mention, playing as a utility infielder while even pitching earlier in her career.

The All-Around Senior Athlete Award is highest honor bestowed to outgoing student-athletes, and it comes with perks — one male and one female from each class receive lifetime passes to all Sierra-hosted sports events, and their names get added onto a banner listing previous all-around senior honorees in the gym.
