RIPON – A weekend after finishing runner-up at the Big Valley Tournament in Modesto, Ripon travelled across the street to capture the Ripon Christian Invitational title with a 3-0 win over Lathrop.

The Indians knocked off the host Knights, 4-0 in the semifinals, as David Paden, Arik Anaya, Christian Caleb and Bryant Macias all found net.

Jared Berglund, Anaya and Matty Gay were all credited with assists.

RC’s Ben De Ruiter collected seven saves in the loss.

“Ripon controlled the flow and went up 3-0 at halftime,” RC head coach Keith Terpsma said. “They scored another early in the second half.”
Lathrop found itself in the final, after fighting back to beat Waterford in the first round, 2-1.

“The kids played really well,” Spartans head coach Jay Mamorno said.

Faith Christian failed to show up for the tournament, which awarded the host Knights a first-round forfeit win.

RC wrapped the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Escalon.

Steve Vander Molen scored for the Knights, while De Ruiter racked up four more saves in net.

“We held our own (against Escalon),” Terpsma said. “We threatened, with more shots, but they were able to put theirs in net.”
Escalon led 3-0 at half.

Dylan Van Vliet opened up himself in the box for a penalty, and Vander Molen scored on the PK.
