Ketner back in top form in win

CERES – Jackie Ketner was back on top of her game and back atop the East Union scorecard following a 177-253 win over Central Valley at St. Stanislaus Thursday afternoon.

Ketner finished with a 3-over-par 30, three strokes better than Jillian Goulart.

Frances Telles turned in a 34, Tori Souza shot a 39, and Heather Craft had a 41.

Krystal Young carded a 43.

The Lancers moved to 8-0 in Valley Oak League play.

East Union 5, Lathrop 0

The Lancers kicked off the second half of the season with a sweep of the Spartans.

Meagan McCleary downed Merchelle Alegado, 6-3, 6-2, Shanae Haroldson topped Michaela Paule, 6-0, 6-0, and freshman Rebekah Jacobson defeated Richelle Reynogo, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Klasey Kachalkin and Shalane Jackson downed Shauna Hinson and Jazlyn Simon, 6-1, 6-1, and Ciara Jones and Kim Paulson upended Chanel Johnson and Hargun Aberai, 6-0, 6-2.

“The girls played very well despite the ridiculous heat,” EU head coach Julia Bylow said. “Lathrop has improved since the last time we played them, the coach is doing a good job over there.”

Sierra 9. 5, Weston Ranch 5.5

The T’Wolves got off to another slow start Thursday, but this time there was enough on the back end to get the job done.

Ann McFerran swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, and Jena Anderson and Stephanie Vanni swept 10-0, 10-3.

Vannida Nguyen fell 0-6 to Vy Hoang, and 5-7 to Nicole Bowen before picking up a 6-1 win over Gloria Gonzalez.

Kelly Fuentes fell 4-6, 6-7 (2-5), and downed Gonzalez, 6-1.

Kayla Erion and Maryann Baker defeated Christian Pokay and Vanessa Catalina, 10-6, and fell to Ly Hoang and Vanessa Paez, 6-10.

“The only way for us to move forward is to come out strong, we can’t afford to get behind early (in a match),” Sierra head coach Arabella Whitlock said.

Sierra (5-3 VOL) heads back to Weston Ranch Monday, before making the trip to Sonora Wednesday.
