RIPON – The Ripon Christian Knights scored two in the first for a quick lead and wouldn’t surrender it, holding off a late Modesto Christian rally for a 5-2 Trans Valley League win Thursday.
Ripon Christian (10-3 TVL, 15-6 overall) only mustered eight hits on offense, but a solid effort from starting pitcher Robbie DeVries was enough to help the Knights add another in the win column.
DeVries went 5 2/3 innings, striking out five without surrendering a run. Steve Vander Molen worked the seventh, yielding a pair of hits while striking out one.
Offensively, Ripon Christian got multi-hit performances from Aaron Fay and Robert Hull, who both went 2 for 3and came around to score. Arie den Dulk, Elijah English, Clayton Prins and Vander Molen all got hits in the win.
Both Prins and den Dulk drove in a pair for Ripon Christian.
Ripon Christian will try and solidify its postseason hopes when they close out the TVL schedule with a home-home series with Escalon High. The Knights will travel to Escalon Tuesday, and play host to the Cougars the following day.
