Sonora High needed only two innings from its ace pitcher, Ryan Stevenson, in a 6-1 victory at Lathrop Monday.

The game was a makeup from last week’s two-game series postponed because of rain, so the short outing from Stevenson — who struck out five of the seven batters he faced — should prove valuable for the Wildcats (3-2 Valley Oak League, 11-6 overall) with a home-and-away with East Union looming.

Sonora ended up using four pitchers Monday.

Lathrop (2-3, 8-6) hung tough early on, as Rene Zuniga plated the tying run in the bottom of the third before Sonora erupted for four runs in the fourth.

Mikey Pereznegron lasted 3 1/3 innings from the mound, walking four versus three strikeouts. Austin plunk threw the final 3 2/3 in relief.

Wyatt Johnson went 2 for 4 with two RBIs to lead Sonora.

Lathrop begins its two-game set with Manteca at home Wednesday and will wrap up its series with Sonora on the road next Monday, April 23.

The Buffaloes got a solid outing from pitcher Nate Chivello in Monday’s nonleague contest. Chivello struck out five and scattered just three hits in a complete-game effort.
