Non-league contests between Ripon Christian and Chavez High of Stockton have been going on for quite some time. The two clubs met up for their yearly installment and Chavez came in overmatched, falling to Ripon Christian 25-4, 25-19 and 25-12 Tuesday.

Ripon Christian took advantage of the opportunity to get in some action prior to its Southern League deciding matchup with Mariposa Thursday in Mariposa. The Knights got up early on the Titans and never let up, cruising to victory in three.

“They’ve been on our schedule for the past few years and they’ve always had a pretty decent program,” Ripon Christian head coach Tiger Shelton said. “I’ve been down before and I didn’t want teams taking me off the schedule because I’m down.

“We have Mariposa Thursday and I wanted to game in before for a little more extra play.”

Andie Shelton was outstanding for the Knights, collecting 25 assists and pounding home six kills. Teammate Brittany Petlansky also banged home six kills. Shelton opened the contest in style, serving a 23-0 run to start the blowout.

Thursday’s contest with Mariposa will ultimately decide the Southern League, with Ripon Christian earning a portion of the title with a loss, or claiming the SL title outright with a victory. The two clubs’ first matchup was 3-0 victory for Ripon Christian.
