RIPON — The weather conditions weren’t ideal, but Ripon continued its march toward a second straight Valley Foothill League North Division championship Thursday with a 155-173 win over visiting Sonora at Jack Tone Golf Course.

“The course was playing tough today,” Ripon coach Eric Dambrosio said. “It was really windy and the greens were dried out. My girls played well considering. I told them before we teed off that their score may be a bit higher due to the tough conditions and not to get frustration. They kept calm and patient and played solid. I am proud of them.”

The 7-0 Indians were paced by co-medalist Laura Williams, who tied Sonora’s Megan Popovich with a 5-over 37. Williams was backed by Alex Gonzales’ 39, Breeana Huckell’s 38 and Claire Wever’s 41. Emma Peller (44), Elsa Parish (46) and Shelby Frame (46) rounded out scoring for the Wildcats, who fell to 3-4.

Up next is the mid-season VFL Tournament at Micke Grove next Monday.
