After cruising in the first two sets, East Union avoided a fifth set by holding off visiting Galt 25-14, 25-15, 12-25, 26-24 Thursday at Dalben Center.

The Lancers improved to 4-2 and welcome Los Banos next Monday.

They did damage from the service line against Galt. Makayla Viri fired six aces, Valerie Ochoa had five, and Meritiana Luani and Mariela Navarro added four apiece.

Luani also tied for the team lead with five kills, along with Katelynn Trevino. Navarro finished with four kills. Marcella Carranza chimed in with seven assists and two aces.

 

Sierra 3, Weston Ranch 0

Zoe Kossart accumulated 11 kills, five aces and three digs, helping the Timberwolves (2-0) sweep their former Valley Oak League rival, 25-10, 25-12, 25-19.

Sophia Marian contributed five kills and three aces. Abigail Chapman also had five kills.

 

Lathrop 3, Patterson 1

Alaba Olaleye and Elizabeth Andrade spearheaded the Spartans (2-0) to a 25-11, 15-25, 25-10, 25-13 road win.

Olaleye pounded out 15 kills to go with five aces and five digs. Andrade turned in a double-double with 11 kills, 10 digs and five aces. Azul Maldonado contributed with four kills and seven digs.

 

JV girls volleyball

Sierra 2, Weston Ranch 0

Sierra cruised to a 25-20, 25-7 sweep after a competitive opening set.

Jenna Cai, Ellie Denny, Cianna Leonardo and Amaya Maciel paced the attack with three aces apiece.

Sabrina Alverado and Leonardo each hammered two kills.

 

East Union 2, Galt 0

The Lancers rolled to a 25-19, 25-12 sweep behind four aces each from Isabella Rodriguez and Laura Montanez.

Gisele Velazquez registered three aces and two kills. Carolyn Johnson also had three aces.

 

Lathrop 2, Patterson 0

The Spartans swept, 25-10, 25-17.

Julia Roaquin led the way with 13 assists, four aces, two blocks and three digs. Valerie Renteria rapped six kills, Annie Millan collected seven digs and Annabelle Obasuyi added three solo blocks and three aces.

 

Frosh girls volleyball

Sierra 2, Weston Ranch 0

The host T’wolves held on for the 25-19, 26-24 victory.

Maitland Kohoutek drilled three kills. Danica Cesante chipped in three aces and two assists. Kailyn Owen also served a pair of assists.

 

East Union 2, Galt 0

EU made quick work of the Warriors, 25-10, 25-8.

Gwendolin Baker amassed eight aces. Maci Ouimette finished with five, while Jocelyn Gonzalez and Bailey Ford turned in three each.

 

Patterson 2, Lathrop 0

Shakara Porter paced Lathrop with three kills and two aces. Tatianna Lopez chipped in two assists and two aces.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 150, Sonora 183

Gabbi Ilardi and the Indians are off and running in the Valley Foothill League North Division.

Ilardi, the two-time reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division V champion, finished 1-under 30 in the opener at Jack Tone Golf Course. Runner-up Katie Martin scored a 38.

Ana Fisher and Vivian Parsons tied for third with Sonora’s Ella Wolken with 41s. Gaby Calderara added a 46 for Ripon.
