ROUNDUP: Lathrop golfers inch closer to postseason berth with 2 wins

Lathrop’s girls golf team remains on pace to qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Tournament after picking up two more wins Wednesday in Western Athletic Conference play.

The Spartans hosted three teams but went head-to-head against two of them outscoring both Pacheco (333) and Los Banos (372) with their 308 score.

Abigail Bautista led Lathrop with a 46. No. 6 player Lorelai Kremerskotter factored into scoring with a 67. The Spartans improved to 8-3 in the WAC and 9-3 overall.

 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Ripon Christian 3, Gustine 0

Jenna Hofman tallied 31 assists and two blocks, while Jordan Vander Veen rapped 14 kills to help the Southern Athletic League-leading Knights (8-0, 23-3 overall) roll to a 25-8, 25-14, 25-14 victory.

 

East Union 3, Weston Ranch 1

The Lancers notched their first Valley Oak League win and second for the season, 25-6, 19-25, 25-15, 25-12.

Valerie Ochoa had productive night at Dalben Center, finishing with 14 kills, 11 aces and two digs. Mariela Navarro chipped in 10 kills and two blocks. Meritiana Luani collected 14 digs, and Isabe Ugalino added 23 assists and three aces. Bella Israel chimed in with eight digs and three aces.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

WAC Meet No. 2

Lathrop’s varsity girls remain in contention for the league title despite a narrow third-place finish in Tuesday’s cluster meet at Eagal Lakes in Tracy.

The Spartans finished with 41 points behind Mountain House’s 39 and Los Banos’ 40. Taimane Lowery led them with a sixth-place individual time of 24 minutes, 39 seconds. Veronica Rodriguez (25:41) and Neftali Soto Aguilar (26:14) took ninth and 10th, respectively.

Aron Camacho took 23rd in 21:39 for Lathrop’s varsity boys, who finished sixth out of seven teams with 136 points.

Belen Baca was the top lower-levels performer for Lathrop, as she took eighth in the 2.1-mile frosh-soph girls race in 18:59.

 

JV volleyball

East Union 2, Weston Ranch 1

The Lancers held on for the 25-7, 22-25, 15-12 victory.

Marcella Carrenza anchored them with six aces, 20 assists and two kills. Valerie Lugo added five aces and three kills. Jatziry Garcia paced the attack with 11 kills. Giselle Hamilton led the defense with six digs.

 

Ripon Christian 2, Gustine 0

Sydney Hoffman and Maddie Yonker blasted seven kills apiece for Ripon Christian. Megan Weststeyn contributed 16 assists, while Leah Van Wyngarden had seven digs.

 

Frosh volleyball

East Union 2, Weston Ranch 0

Katelyn Trevino recorded four kills, three aces and 13 service points, as the Lancers cruised to a 25-8, 25-17 sweep.

Jada Stevens provided eight kills to the attack.
