Stogdell leads Oakdale golfers past Sierra

The Sierra boys golf team hosted the Oakdale Mustangs Wednesday, and the Valley Oak League frontrunners continued their early season roll, beating the Timberwolves 208-234 at Manteca Golf Course.

The Timberwolves got a round of 43 from Blake Settlemoire and a 44 from Drew Allen. Both Matt Rose and Esley Green turned in 48s, while Chris Schmitt signed the card on a 51.

Oakdale was led by Ian Stogdell’s medalist honors earning one-over-par 38 to pace the match.

The Timberwolves will try and get back on the right track Tuesday when they travel to Stockton to take on the Weston Ranch Cougars at Van Buskirk Golf Course.

Softball

East Union 13, Millennium 2

Haleigh Castner gave the Lancers a quality start, going the distance in a 13-2 blowout of Millennium Wednesday.

Cherish Burks hit a grand slam, Kelsey Emerson smacked a solo shot and Alex Scopas hit her first homerun for a trio of Lancers that left the yard.

“It was a great team effort and Haleigh did a great job on the mound,” East Union head coach Brian Goulart said. “We had three girls hit homers and that was nice to see.”

Ripon 8, Riverbank 6

The Indians were able to thwart off a late Riverbank rally to edge out the Bruins with a 8-6 Trans Valley League victory.

Mackenzie Gauden tossed six-and-a-third for the Indians, giving way to Nicole Kaiser for the final two outs and the save. Gauden had three strikeouts in the win with three walks.

Kaiser and Breana Gall led Ripon’s seven-hit attack with two hits apiece. Darian Vandermaaten, Taylor Vernon and Kaiser all drove in a pair in the win.

Tennis

Manteca 9, Lathrop 0

The Buffaloes continued their impressive run through the VOL, taking out the Lathrop Spartans 9-0 Wednesday at Union Road.

Oral Nunis and Jacob Webb both won 6-1, 6-0, while Mike Lopez won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Yok-Jing Ma, Chris Kloska and Jorge Sierra all won in straight sets. Doubles tandems Thomas Reza and Izham Reger won 6-3, 6-1, while teammates Angel Tejada and Ivan Sierra won 6-0, 6-0.

The Buffaloes will try and remain perfect on the VOL schedule when they host the Spartans at 3:30 p.m.
