LANCASTER (AP) — Vince Fernandez doubled twice and singled twice, driving home four runs as the Lancaster JetHawks defeated the Modesto Nuts 7-2 on Thursday.
Colton Welker doubled and singled twice with three runs for Lancaster.
Lancaster started the scoring in the first inning. After hitting a double with two outs, Welker scored on a single by Fernandez.
The JetHawks later added four runs in the third and two in the fourth. In the third, Tyler Nevin hit a two-run single, while Fernandez hit a two-run double in the fourth.
Lancaster right-hander Brandon Gold (6-5) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings. Opposing starter Darren McCaughan (4-6) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed seven runs and 11 hits over six innings.
Lancaster improved to 8-2 against Modesto this season.
