CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Serena Williams will join sister Venus at the Family Circle Cup championships in April.

The younger Williams sister committed to play the clay court tournament this week. Venus announced she was playing earlier this month.

Both Williams sisters are past champions at the Family Circle. Venus won the title in 2004 and Serena won four years later in 2008. That was her last appearance at the Family Cup Tennis Center.

Serena Williams has won 13 major titles, the most among active women's players. She says she's returning in part to help mark the 40th anniversary of the tournament.

Venus Williams is playing in Charleston for the first time since reaching the third round here in 2009.
